In this exercise student will understand the usage of Doge, Burn & Sponge tool.
Doge Tool (O)
Doge tool is used to lighten (add light) up the area of the image. Using this tool three areas (Highlights, Midtones & Shadows) of the image can be targeted to make them brighter.
How to use Doge Tool
- Select Doge Tool
- Adjust the Brush Size
- Select the Range i.e Midtones,/ Highlights or Shadows.
- Set Exposure % (Intensity of Light)
- Hold Left Click and start dragging the mouse over the area which is to be brighten up.

Burn Tool (O)
Burn tool is opposite to Doge tool. It is used to darken (add shadows) up the area of the image. Using this tool three areas (Highlights, Midtones & Shadows) of the image can be targeted to make them darker.
How to use Burn Tool
- Select Burn Tool
- Adjust the Brush Size
- Select the Range i.e Midtones,/ Highlights or Shadows.
- Set Exposure % (Intensity of Light)
- Hold Left Click and start dragging the mouse over the area which is to be darken .
SpongeTool
Sponge tool is used to saturate or desaturate the specific areas of an image. Saturation mode makes color more vibrant and increases the intensity of the color. And the Desaturation mode decrease the intensity of the colors and make then dull/neutral.
How to use Sponge Tool
- Select Sponge Tool
- Adjust the Brush Size
- Select the Mode i.e Saturate or Desaturate
- Set Flow % (Rate of Color change)
- Hold Left Click and start dragging the mouse over the area which is to be adjusted.
